    Systems Engineering

Systems engineering is a core capability of Rubicon Associates, underpinning our approach to technical problem-solving, risk management, and lifecycle integration across complex maritime programs. We deliver structured systems engineering expertise from initial concept development through to operational support. Our approach ensures every engineering design and project phase is executed with precision, full traceability, and rigorous alignment to stakeholder requirements while addressing the unique challenges of maritime integration: space, weight, and power constraints, regulatory compliance, through-life supportability, and harsh operational environments.

Safety is embedded throughout our systems engineering process. We apply SFARP (So Far As Reasonably Practicable) principles to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement controls that reduce risk to tolerable levels. From initial safety case development through verification and operational validation, we ensure maritime systems meet stringent safety requirements while maintaining operational effectiveness.

    Integrated Logistics Support

Rubicon's multi-disciplinary team of experts has extensive experience in the design, construction, upgrade, and support of complex Defence platforms and systems. Our core technical capabilities provide us with skills and knowledge that underpin support system development via the application of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS).

Rubicon understands how to integrate these elements to influence equipment design and develop support systems that will maximise system availability at minimum cost. Our scalable approach ensures that every LSA program is fit-for-purpose, delivering the right level of detail and supportability insight to optimise system performance, reduce lifecycle costs, and enhance operational readiness.

    Project Management

Rubicon Associates brings deep expertise in maritime systems project management, spanning Defence platform integration through to the oversight of large-scale vessel programs, both within Australia and internationally. Our capabilities cover the full asset lifecycle, from shipbuilding to ship repair, encompassing strategic planning, shipyard operations, performance management, construction monitoring, and owner's engineer surveying.

Whether supporting high-value, complex programs or lower-cost, lower-complexity projects, our design services are underpinned by proven methodologies and scalable frameworks. The outcome is consistent: enabling our clients to deliver projects with precision, efficiency, and confidence, on time, on budget, and aligned to performance objectives.

    Product Innovation

Rubicon is passionate about promoting excellence in maritime engineering to shape Australia's future Naval and Maritime industry capability, and we have a proud record of innovation in the maritime domain. Our technological applications for maritime systems development support both client projects and internal R&D initiatives, and we self-fund our own Technology and Innovation hub.

One example of the hub's work that draws on our multi-disciplined teams' experience is the design development of a revolutionary Autonomous Uncrewed Surface Vessel. The MAUSV incorporates lightweight hull materials, solar-based power systems, mission planning, remote and autonomous navigation control, and situational/environmental perception techniques. Its operational versatility is demonstrated through key use cases: Maritime Strike, Logistics Transfer, and Multiagent Based Surveillance.
